There are 100 successful registrants in the online new generic Top Level Domain Application System, ICANN announced today (14 February). With each successful registrant being able to apply for up to 50 new gTLDs, potentially it means there could be 5000 applications, although this would be nigh on impossible.In an effort to spread the love around on Valentine’s Day, ICANN will be updating the number of successful registrants to the new gTLD application system hourly at newgtlds.icann.org/en/program-status/statistics.It is important for potential applicants to note that the deadline to register in the TLD Application System is 29 March. If applicants are not registered in the system by that date, they will be unable to apply. Completed applications are due on 12 April.In early May, ICANN will publish a list of the applications, including the applied-for TLD names and the names of the applicants.
