Apple’s announcement on Tuesday that it would drop anticopying measures from all of the music in its iTunes store is likely to shake up the digital music business in more ways than one.Amazon’s MP3 store, along with smaller-scale operations like eMusic and Other Music, have been offering alternatives to iTunes for tech-savvy audiophiles who were interested in purchasing songs without digital rights management software, or D.R.M. The software imposes restrictions on how music files can be shared and played.
