What’s really at stake in Google’s Android antitrust case

Google is no stranger to regulatory standoffs with Europe. But this time, Brussels is playing for keeps.

The European Commission is in the final stages of imposing what is likely to be a multibillion euro antitrust fine against Android, the tech company’s popular mobile operating system. An announcement could come as soon as this week, and is expected to focus on how Google allegedly uses the software (which is free to use, but comes with restrictions that Brussels says hampers competition) to maintain its dominant position in online search.
