European Domain Centre logoWith 11.25 million domains registered across the 871 new gTLDs delegated, around 420 of which have entered General Availability, the European Domain Centre has talked to 16 industry experts to get them to share their wisdom of what 2016 holds.

The responses are varied, but in short the experts believe the number of and impact of brand gTLDs will grow rapidly. One of the biggest is expected to be Google with their .google. There will also be many of the gTLDs in contention (dispute over the successful applicant) go live.

It’s expected the top gTLDs by registration numbers will stay near the top of the charts, even though they’ve had promotions with discounted and free domains. There will also be wider acceptance and use of new gTLDs and the Chinese investors are likely to continue to invest more in new gTLDs.
