Verisign logoVerisign reported its quarterly results for the first quarter of 2016 last week with 2.65 million net new .com and .net domains added during the three-month period bringing total registrations to 142.5 million.

The increase equated to a 7.1 percent increase compared to the first quarter of 2015 and it’s almost certain that almost all, if not more than all of the increase could be attributed to .com registrations. Registrations of .net domains have remained relatively stable over the last couple of years and at times have even declined quarter to quarter.

Verisign also reported that in the first quarter they processed 10.0 million new domain name registrations for .com and .net, as compared to 8.7 million for the same quarter in 2015.

Also, the final .com and .net renewal rate for the fourth quarter of 2015 was 73.3 percent compared with 72.5 percent for the same quarter in 2014.
