US Justice Dept Investigates Google/Yahoo Tie-up

Now that Google has become a dominant company on the web in most countries in search and advertising, regulatory bodies around the world are taking a closer look at some of its activities. The latest of these is the announcement from the US Department of Justice who is investigating the possible anti-trust implications of the two-week test currently underway whereby Google is combining some of their search and advertising business reports Reuters.The Justice Department is concerned the test may violate anti-trust law according to sources within the Justice Department and is focussing on a “telephone call between Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt to Yahoo chief executive Jerry Yang to offer help in thwarting Microsoft’s $44.6 billion takeover bid.”Another source told Reuters the Justice Department ” was concerned about a longer-term deal, and had an initial inquiry underway into the matter.”The Reuters report is available from Information Week at www.informationweek.com/news/internet/google/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=207401679.
