US Govt Schedules Hearing on ICANN-JPA Future

“House Energy and Commerce Communications Subcommittee Chairman Rick Boucher, D-Va., will hold a June 4 hearing to examine the future of the U.S. government’s relationship with” ICANN, reports Tech Daily Dose.The report notes subcommittee staffers will be briefed on the topic a day prior to the hearing and that a witness list has not yet been finalised.Interest in the future relationship between the Department of Commerce and ICANN is coming to a head because the Joint Project Agreement between the two organisations is scheduled to sunset on September 30. Boucher has previously expressed an interest, the report notes, in holding a hearing focussing on ICANN.”Regardless of whether the JPA is terminated, modified or extended, it is my belief that NTIA will continue to be an active participant in ICANN,” said Assistant Secretary-Designate Larry Strickling, who awaits Senate confirmation.To read this Tech Daily Dose report in full, see:
