In an incident that highlights how almost nothing that one does on the Internet is private, the chief judge of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has recused himself from an obscenity trial after the Los Angeles Times reported last week that it had found a cache of sexually explicit images on his personal Web site.Judge Alex Kozinski, who was presiding over the case as part of a process under which he and other appeals court judges are assigned to handle some criminal trials, also asked the 9th Circuit’s judicial council to conduct an investigation into the controversy, presumably to see if his actions constituted any ethical violations.
