The sunny, modern, welcoming country of Tunisia looks an unlikely bedfellow of North Korea, Burma and Turkmenistan. All, however, feature on Reporters without Borders’ list of 12 “enemies of the internet” for their attempts to censor 21st century communication.The last few weeks have given Tunisia’s leaders good reason. Its young are as avid devotees of Facebook, Twitter and email as any country’s and, since a young man named Mohamed Bouazizi poured petrol over himself on December 17 and set himself, alight pictures of the ensuing riots have circulated rapidly from town to town.
