The total value of domain name transactions through Escrow.com totalled $85.85 million in the first quarter of 2020, the first time the total value was over $75 million since the corresponding quarter in 2019, according to data recently released by the world’s largest online escrow provider for domain names, among other items.
The bounce back to over the $75 million mark also follows 5 previous quarters, from the first quarter of 2018 to the first quarter of 2019 where it passed the milestone, according to the report, Escrow.com Domain Investment Index: Q1, 2020.
The total sales were dominated by 2 countries, and one in particular, the USA, which accounted for $70 million in sales for the quarter, followed by the United Kingdom with $10.1 million.
One interesting statistic highlight is that in the first quarter, domain names with content tripled the volume of the previous quarter, partly due to a surge in transactions of lower-priced domains. There was also an increase in two to three number .com domains during the first quarter compared to the previous quarters over the past 17 years.
Other interesting statistics in the report include median year-on-year price returns for Q1 dropped to 5.8%, the lowest since 2017 when the figure was a negative – around -12%.
