The somewhat controversial proposed .XXX Top Level Domain is up for discussion by the ICANN board today (Friday) and a vote for whether it is approved. The adult industry is vehemently against the proposal and staged a small protest of a couple of dozen members outside the meeting venue Thursday. But the decade-long discussion, including several rejections by the ICANN board, is up for discussion once more with indications the US government is more relaxed in its view on the TLD.ICM Registry, who has invested millions of dollars in the proposal, has said it will help internet users find adult sites more easily, while saying they will spend part of each registration fee on issues to deal with child protection online. The adult industry views these issues as “bullshit”. In a series of articles on the Adult Video News website in February, Diane Duke, Free Speech Coalition Executive Director said “ICM and Stuart Lawley want to use your money to perpetuate the myth that child pornography is connected to the adult entertainment industry. But the industry already knows that the myth is not true. In fact, we know it’s…BULLSHIT!!!!”
