Another casualty of in-person conferences is TLDCON 2020, which next month will be online only. The preliminary conference programme has been published for the thirteenth annual conference for ccTLD registries and registrars of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Central and Eastern Europe.
TLDCON 2020 will be held online on 7 and 8 September 2020. The conference was organised by the Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ and supported by the Technical Center of Internet and MSK-IX.
This year, the conference will focus on the changes that have occurred in the industry during its transition to remote operation. Due to remote participation, TLDCON 2020 will convene, on one virtual platform, representatives of international organizations and national registries, well-known Russian and foreign technical experts, and heads of top-level domain registries and registrars.
The TLDCON 2020 business programme will open with the plenary session, 2020: The industry in new conditions. How to go on? The speakers will represent different countries and areas of the domain business and will discuss the recent changes in approaches to maintaining resilient and secure operation of the internet infrastructure at the international, regional and national levels; the new requirements for the multistakeholder model of internet governance in general and for ccTLDs in particular; and the current priorities of registries and domain registrars.
The participants will include Mikhail Anisimov (ICANN), Maxim Burtikov (RIPE NCC), Yelena Voronina (MSK-IX), Natalia Motshu (ITU), Alexey Rogdev (Technical Center of Internet), Katrina Sataki (NIC.LV), Dusan Stojicevic (UASG), Pavel Gusev (KazNIC), Sergey Povalishev (hoster.by), Alexey Koroluk (Reg.ru), Andrey Kuzmichev (RU-CENTER), Alexey Lukatsky (Cisco), Andrey Savelyev (ДОМЕНЫ.РФ), Leonid Todorov (APTLD) and others. The session will be moderated by Andrey Vorobyev (Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ).
The plenary will be followed by the session on Internationalised Domain Names: Global and Regional Initiatives in Universal Acceptance. The universal acceptance issue has been extremely relevant in the past few years since an entire family of internationalized identifiers such as domain names, emails and accounts was added to the internet landscape. Participants will talk about the prospects for these identifiers achieving equal service on the internet and will discuss the latest universal acceptance initiatives at the global and local levels. Maria Kolesnikova from Coordination Center for TLD .RU/.РФ will moderate the discussion, which will be attended, among others, by Manal Ismail of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Egypt, Dusan Stojicevic (UASG), and Giovanni Mauro Seppia (EURid).
The first day of the forum will end with the discussion Regulations: Ablation? Coaxing? Salvation? The experts will consider the main regulatory trends in the region and their impact on the operation of ccTLDs in the context of global changes in the industry. They will share their ideas and suggestions on how to promote dialogue between ccTLD registries and regulators, and will even invite their audience to let their imaginations run free within the proposed topic. The session will be moderated by Leonid Todorov (APTLD).
The second day of TLDCON 2020 will open with the session, DNS: The Red Lines, where internet security will be thoroughly considered from all angles. Participants will be briefed on which matters are within the purview of registries, registrars or other participants in the domain name ecosystem, and who is working to prevent the use of DNS for illegal purposes and how. Mikhail Anisimov (ICANN) will moderate the discussion.
The next session of the conference will be devoted to Internet analytics based on the DNS system. DNS activity is part of all communications regardless of the protocol used, and DNS logging is a valuable source of data for security professionals, DNS architects, marketers, and analysts. We say that data is the 21st century’s oil, but are DNS data just one small well? Panelists will discuss how an internet company can benefit from DNS research. The discussion will be moderated by Yelena Voronina (MSK-IX) and Alexey Rogdev (TCI) and attended by Alexey Lukatsky (Cisco), Pavel Khramtsov (MSK-IX), Alexander Venedukhin (TCI) and others.
Preliminary registration for the TLDCON 2020 conference is required. Participation is free. And the programme is available here.
