The ICANN Board has approved Panama as the location in Latin America to host ICANN‘s 62nd public meeting. Previously scheduled for the week of 18 June, this Policy Forum has been moved to 25-28 June to respect the Muslim Eid al-Fitr holiday celebration.
ICANN holds three public meetings each calendar year in different regions of the globe. ICANN Meetings are a central principle of ICANN‘s multistakeholder model because they provide a venue for progressing policy work, conducting outreach, exchanging best practices, conducting business deals, interacting among members of the ICANN community, including Board and staff and learning about ICANN. Usually comprised of more than 400 different sessions, these meetings are the focal point for individuals and representatives of the different ICANN stakeholder groups to introduce and discuss issues related to ICANN policy. Participants may attend in person or remotely. Meetings are open to everyone and registration is free.

ICANN announced yesterday that their 56th public meeting that was to be held in Panama City, scheduled to be held in June 2016, will be moved to another location due to the severity of the Zika Virus outbreak in the Latin America region. In the short announcement ICANN said a search is currently underway to identify an alternate location where the Zika Virus is not a concern. And just like the meeting this month in Marrakech that was originally due to be held 12 months ago, and was rescheduled, ICANN said they look forward to returning to Panama for a future ICANN Meeting.
