Dan.com has been acquired by GoDaddy it was announced this week. The acquisition, which appears to have been under discussion for some time brings Dan’s products and engine to the world’s largest domain name registrar and their 21+ million customers.

Some Weeks Are Bigger Than Others

Domain Name Journal logoFollowing a couple of editions with some six figure sales, and one seven figure sale, the Domain Name Journal list of top reported sales was a trifle disappointing in the week to 8 June. The top reported sale was suzies.com, selling for $62,050 through GoDaddy/Afternic. Nice for the seller, but not so exciting for the rest of us!

Coming in second was tolo.com, which sold for $40,250 through MediaOptions and then interracialporn.com, which sold for $24,000 through HuntingMoon.

There were 17 .com sales in the top 20. The other three were one each for .org, .co.uk and .com.br, all in the top eight. While on the aftermarket side of things there were 11 sales through Sedo and six through GoDaddy/Afternic.

Domain Name Journal logoSex is always popular when it comes to domain name sales, and the sale of sex.xxx was no exception, selling for $3,000,000 through ICM Registry, becoming the third largest sale in the year-to-date and topping the Domain Name Journal chart in the two weeks to 1 June.

In second place was datacenter.com, which would have topped the charts itself in most weeks, selling for $500,000 in a private sale while lk.com came in third, selling for $287,500 in a sale that would also have topped the charts in most weeks, selling through Heritage Auctions.

The chart consisted of 41 sales being for two weeks and included 35 .com domains. There were also two each for .tv and .org and one each for .xxx and .de.

On the aftermarket side of things there were 14 sales through GoDaddy/Afternic, 13 through Sedo and eight through NameJet.

The other two were vitaminc.com, which sold for $104,000 and credits.com, which sold for $100,000, both through Sedo.

There were 18 .com sales in total out of the top 20, with cloud.com.au and pj.net being the two exceptions.

And on the aftermarket outlet, there were eight Sedo sales and seven GoDaddy/Afternic sales.

Third was kalamata.com, which sold for €45,000 ($62,550) and then lolly.com ($50,000), both through Sedo.

Overall there were 17 .com sales, and one each for .de, .fr and .net. On the aftermarket outlets there were eight sales each through Sedo and NameJet and two through GoDaddy/Afternic.

Sedo had a nice week with a hand in 15 of the top 24 sales – there was a five-way tie for 20th place. But GoDaddy/Afternic also had a good week with the nine remaining sales.

There were 15 .com sales, three .de sales, two .net and one each for .fr, .info, .ch and .tv.

As could be expected, it dwarfed the second biggest sale, trade360.com, which sold for $42,500 through GoDaddy/Afternic and then a tie for third place with fun8.com and jsa.com selling for $25,000 through Sedo and GoDaddy/Afternic respectively.

There were 14 .com sales in the top 20 on the chart and interestingly three .club sales along with one each for .de, .ly and .net.

On the sales outlet, there were ten Sedo sales and eight for GoDaddy/Afternic.

Coming in a very close second was youpay.com, selling for $200,000 through MostWantedDomains while sat.cn came in third, selling for CNY680,000 ($108,800) in a private sale. And in another significant sale, blow.com sold for $80,000 through DomainNameSales.

Overall Sedo brokered the sale of 11 of the top 21 (there was a three-way tie for 19th place) while GoDaddy/Afternic had five sales and CityAdvertising two.

On the TLD side of things, there were 16 .com sales and one each for .cn, .ca, .co, .co.uk and .de.

Coming in second was like.it, selling for €55,000 ($75,900) through Nidoma while arwin.com came in third selling for $60,000 through DomainMarket/Sedo. There was also a fourth sale to top the $50,000 mark, with iacademy.com selling for $55,000 through GoDaddy/Afternic.

On the TLD side of things, .com was dominant, taking out 17 of the top 20 sales while there were two .it sales and one .de sale.

On the sales outlet, Sedo had a hand in seven of the top 20 sales, but they were beaten by GoDaddy/Afternic with eight sales including one sale they shared. NoktaDomains and Nidoma had two sales each.

Second for the week was freespins.de, which sold for €20,000 ($27,600) in another Sedo sale while there was a tie for third between catterton.com and ntent.com, both selling for $25,000 through Go Daddy/Afternic and Sedo respectively.

Overall Sedo had another good week, brokering 12 of the top 20 sales while Go Daddy/Afternic had another six.

On the TLD side of things, there were 12 .com sales, three .de sales, two .net and one each for .org, .tv and .it.
