.CLUB Launches Names.club Marketplace for Brandable Premium New gTLD Domains

.CLUB Domains launched Names.club, a new premium domain marketplace featuring brandable domain names for new gTLDs, at the recent NamesCon conference in Las Vegas. The new web and mobile Names.club replaces Get.club, the market that was launched by the .CLUB registry at NamesCon 2017.

The announcement included a number of early registry partners for Names.club including GMO (.Shop) and MMX (.Miami, .Boston, .Fit, .Yoga and more). All premium domain names offered at Names.club will be available with 60-month Easy Payments (after down payment), making high value, brandable, keyword domains more affordable for small businesses and entrepreneurs.

“We’ve had great success with our Get.club platform,” stated .CLUB CEO Colin Campbell. “We’ve demonstrated that there’s a strong demand for premium domains when they can be paid for over time. With the introduction of new top-level domains, businesses can find a meaningful keyword or exact match domain, instead of misspelling or making up words. With Names.club we’re expanding our proven platform to include a wider choice of great names for entrepreneurs looking to build a great brand, and we’re honored to already have important partners lined up, like our friends at GMO and MMX,” Campbell continued.

More than $817,000 in sales were made by Get.club in 2017, including 153 active subscriptions under the Easy Payment plan. The network of more than 80 domain brokers with accounts established at Get.club will now be able to earn commission on names sold by Names.club, including names other than .CLUB. The Easy Payment plan at Names.club minimizes the upfront expense for the buyer and maximizes their flexibility and opportunity to use a great, brandable domain. After a 20% deposit the remaining 80% is paid in 60 monthly instalments, with no interest and no long-term obligation. For example, a name priced at $1,000 would be $200 down and $13.33 per month for 60-months.

The new marketplace is live now at Names.club. To apply to become a Names.club Broker or Affiliate, please visit NamesBroker.club.

.SHOP Turns One, But Profit Seems a Long Way Off

The .shop new gTLD gained a lot of attention when GMO Registry paid $41.5 million for it at auction. Today there are almost 328,000 registrations. It’s the 13th largest of the new gTLDs by domains under management and has around the industry average number of parked domains at 58.34% indicating a reasonable usage. So from a registrations perspective, it’s performing well.

But as Online Domain points out, “it will take them many years to recoup their investment, if ever.” It’s hard to disagree unless registrations jump dramatically. Even allowing for their approval for Chinese registrants Time will tell of course! But your correspondent will have to rethink their earlier thought GMO’s purchase of .shop “looking like being a great investment”.

The amount paid at auction though is dwarfed by what Verisign has paid for .web, a whopping $135 million. Which means Verisign will have to have registrations in the millions for it to pay off. Today that seems very hopeful. At best.

“The ecommerce market has grown 20 percent year-over-year for the past five years and continues to expand, the new availability of such a recognizable and easy to remember domain will help ecommerce businesses build brand recognition, said GMO Registry CEO, Hiro Tsukahara. “Security for ecommerce sites is a must, .shop websites secured by GlobalSign SSL allow website operators to secure sensitive customer information and build trust. We are excited to support the encrypt everything movement by offering this free certificate service to .shop domain owners.”

And in another change, GMO Registry announced due to strong demand from registrars and end-users, they amended the .shop Registration Policy to allow the use of Whois Proxy/Privacy services as of 21 October.

.SHOP To Get Free Branded SSL Certificates

dotSHOP gTLD logo[news release] GMO Internet Group companies, GMO GlobalSign and GMO Registry, announced today (8 Nov) that they will offer .shop domain owners free SSL certificates to secure their websites. Short, meaningful and relevant, .shop aims to become the global home of ecommerce. A .shop domain is ideal for online and offline businesses, including ecommerce, digital content providers and offline retailers. .shop SSL is expected to be available to .shop domain name owners by the end of November 2016.

.shop domain owners will become eligible to receive .shopSSL, one-year Domain Validated (DV) certificates after registering .shop domain name(s). Domain owners will experience seamless integration of SSL encryption as part of their website. For ecommerce providers, this allows for differentiation of their platform and provides their customers the ability to conduct secure and private transactions. Offline shops not quite ready to move into ecommerce, but wanting to communicate with their customers online, can also benefit from secured .shop domains.

“The ecommerce market has grown 20 percent year-over-year for the past five years and continues to expand and the new availability of such a recognizable and easy to remember domain will help ecommerce businesses build brand recognition, said (Spokesperson). “Security for ecommerce sites is a must, .shop websites secured by GlobalSign SSL allow website operators to secure sensitive customer information and build trust. We are excited to support the encrypt everything movement by offering this free certificate to .shop domain owners.”

SSL encryption has been at the forefront of cybersecurity discussions with acknowledgement from consumers, businesses, Certificate Authorities (CAs) and other stakeholders that the reported ratio of websites secured by SSL is woefully low. GlobalSign and GMO Registry are helping to make the internet safer and ecommerce more trusted for everyone by offering .shop domain owners a one year free DV SSL certificate. For domain owners looking for increased security and higher assurance certificates, GlobalSign is a trusted provider of Organization Validated (OV) and Extended Validation (EV) SSL certificates.

In addition to security, SSL plays a direct role in Google’s search ranking algorithm. Google encourages all sites to secure visitor information with SSL certificates by recognizing HTTPS as a ranking signal.

GMO Registry Announces French Ecommerce Solution Provider Wizishop Is .SHOP Pioneer

dotSHOP gTLD logoThe French e-commerce solution provider Wizishop has been selected to participate in the .shop Pioneer Programme.

Wizishop is benefiting from an early registration of the domain name WIZI.SHOP ahead of the .shop release as well as extra marketing support on the part of GMO Registry in promoting their business.

Since the launch of ICANN’s new generic Top Level Domain programme in 2012, more than 1,000 new gTLDs have been delegated. The .SHOP TLD, which GMO Registry paid more than $41 million to secure, was first launched with a Sunrise phase for trademark holders starting June 30, 2016. At the same time, the registry launched a “Pioneer Program,” for which it selected the French ecommerce company Wizishop to be .SHOP’s ambassador in France.

On the one hand, the program allows Wizishop to priority register its .SHOP domain and on the other hand provides Wizishop extra marketing support from GMO Regstry and on the other hand it lets GMO Registry associate .SHOP with big players in the ecommerce market.

Says GMO Registry CEO, Hiro Tsukahara, “.SHOP Pioneers will be instrumental in helping us to shape and build the .shop namespace and we couldn’t be more proud to have Wizishop as a partner in the .shop launch.”

Gregory Beyrouti, co-founder of Wizishop expressed the company’s enthusiasm, saying, “We are very honored that our application, submitted by Gandi, has been approved, and that we will become ambassadors of the .SHOP TLD. We already make use of domain names registered in various TLDs, primarily in geographic extensions, to forward to our various ‘product’ sites in French, but also in English, Italian and Spanish. What .SHOP allows us to do is to launch WIZI.SHOP as our flagship site, dedicated to the promotion of the Wizishop brand.”

Sophie Gironi, Head of Communication at Gandi.net,: “Our goal as a registrar is to offer our customers the largest possible catalog of TLDs, not just for the sake of selling every available TLD but more importantly to guarantee that all our customers will find the TLDs that best fit their needs. This is exactly what happened in the case of Wizishop and .shop, and that’s why we supported their application to .SHOP’s pioneer program. We are thrilled to see one of our customers become .SHOP’s ambassador for France”.

With more than 1,200 domain names registrations already, .SHOP is currently one of the TLD with the greatest number of registrations during the Sunrise phase of the release schedule.
