Expiring .EE Domains Now Go To 24 Hour Drop Auction
From 26 March 2019, all expiring .ee domains will go to a domain auction on the .ee auction portal, the registry, the Estonian Internet Foundation, announced.
The auction of the dropped .ee domains will last 24 hours (commencing at 00:00 and finishing at 23: 59 GMT + 2 hours). The preferential right for domain registration will go to auction, with a starting price of â¬5 plus VAT. Only the winning bid will be payable. After the winning bid is paid, the winner of the auction receives a domain reservation code to register the domain with a .ee registrar of their choice. The price of the domain registration will be added to the transaction according to the registrar’s price list. The preferential right for domain registration will be reserved for the winner of the auction for 14 days.
Domains that receive no bids within 24 hours will be released and are freely available for registration to anyone interested in the âfirst-come, first-servedâ principle.
The bidding information in the .ee auction environment will not be made public. Auctions are in the form of a blind auction, where bidders cannot see other offers.

.EE Registry Fee Reduced Along With Other Changes From 1 January
The registry fee, that is the fee charged to registrars, for .ee domain names was reduced on 1 January with multiple registration periods available from one to 10 years. The annual registration fee charged to registrars will be â¬6. As well, the Estonian Internet Foundation will no longer require street addresses and domains can now also be inherited.Starting 1 January, domains can be registered without adding a name server. Name servers make domains available on the internet and thus this is an important change for those who do not want to make their domain publicly available immediately.
In addition to the price decrease, .ee domains can also be registered for 3, 6 or 9 months starting from 1 May, 2017.

.EE Registry Fee Drops On 1 January Followed By Registration Period Changes
The registry fee, that is the fee charged to registrars, for .ee domain names will drop by 14% as of 1 January to â¬6, â¬12 or â¬18 depending on the length of the registration period. And then on 1 May, registrants will be able to register domains for 3, 6 or 9 months, and up to 10 years.The fees for registering domains for Estonian ccTLD for 3, 6 or 9 months will be â¬1.60, â¬3.20 and â¬4.80 respectively along with options for 1, 2 and 3 year periods and up to 10 years. Price differentiation for periods longer than one year is not applied. The fees do not include VAT.
With domain regulation amendments coming into force at the start of the year, the Foundation will also stop asking for postal addresses when registering a .ee domain.

Registrar Price For .EE Domains Reduced To €7
From 1 January 2016, the Estonian Internet Foundation will lower the price charged to registrars of a .ee domain to â¬7, a 20% decrease compared to the present price.
There are 86,600 .ee domains registered at present.According to Aet Rahe, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Foundation, the price decrease has become possible thanks to the strong market position of the .ee domain, as well as a steady annual growth in the number of domains registered. “The market share of the .ee domain in Estonia is 66%, and the number of domains has been growing steadily each year â for the last 12 months, growth has exceeded 10%. The combined effect of these factors as well as the overall success of domain-related activities as a sector of the economy has made it possible to lower the price,” Rahe said.
The Foundation’s strategy for the 2016-2018 period, which was approved yesterday, says that the price differences between registrations for 1, 2 or 3 years will be abolished. The price of registering a .ee domain in 2016 will be 7, 14 or 21 Euros, depending on the length of the registration period.
“I am happy about the fact that we have reached a reasonable price level for the .ee domain compared to neighbouring countries. For instance, the national domain of Finland, .fi costs 12, Sweden’s .se 8.5 and Latvia’s .lv 10 Euros,” Heiki Sibul, member of the Management Board of the Foundation, said.
These prices are the fees charged from service providers for registering a domain. The fee charged from a registrant is determined by the service provider. VAT will be added to the fees.

.EE Domain Regulation Changes From 1 December
The Estonian Internet Foundation has announced .ee Domain Regulation and Registrar Contract Annex 1 changes approved by the EIF Council’s 17 April 2015 decision enter into force on 1 December.They also draw the registrars attention to the changes to Registrar Contract and its annexes 2 and 4 that still enter into force on 1 July, 2015. -
.EE Delays Domain Regulation Changes
The Estonian registry has announced that changes to the .ee Domain Regulation and Registrar Contract Annex 1 that were due to come into force on 1 July have been delayed.The reason for the postponement is due to a delay in ongoing registry system development. The registry will announce and publish on their website the new enforcement date by 22 June at the latest.
However changes to the Registrar Contract and its annexes 2 and 4 will still come into force on 1 July.

.EE Wholesale Price Drops to 9 Euros in 2015
On 1 January 2015, the Estonian Internet Foundation will bring the price of an .ee domain down to 9 euros.An .ee domain can be registered for one, two or three years. The domain name registration fee in 2015 will be 9, 17 or 24 euros depending on the length of the registration period.
According to Aet Rahe, chairman of the Foundationâs Supervisory Board, it is possible to cut the price thanks to the efficient functioning of the Foundation and the favourable market situation. âThe Estonian Internet Foundation is implementing the strategy adopted in 2013; the activity of the Foundation is increasingly cost-effective and the number of registered .ee domain names is increasing year on year, last year by even as much as 9%. These factors have allowed us to bring the price of the service down,â said Rahe.
The prices are the domain name registration fees charged by the Estonian Internet Foundation from registrars, i.e. service providers. The amount of the registration fee to the registrant is established by the registrar. VAT is added to the fee.

.EE Registry Price Reduced 20%
The Estonian Internet Foundation will lower the price of a .ee domain by 20% from 1 January 2014, i.e. down to â¬12..ee domains can be registered for one, two or three years. The domain fee is â¬12, â¬23 or â¬33 in 2014, depending on the length of the registration period.
These are the domain registration prices that the Estonian Internet Foundation will charge from registrars. The price for the registrant is determined by the registrars. VAT will be added to the fee.
From the beginning of January, protection with the DNSSEC security extension will be available for .ee domains. DNSSEC protects Internet users and domain owners, offering them a guarantee that the user has not been unknowingly redirected from the requested homepage to another page. Registered .EE Domains Pass 70,000
On 12 July almost three years after reforming registration rules, the number of .EE domains passed 70,000, of which 1,250 are domain names using Estonian diacritics.According to the number of registered domains, there are 54.4 .ee domain names per 1,000 persons in Estonia, while the number in neighbouring Latvia and Lithuania is 51.7 and 52.5 respectively. The Finnish national domain .fi has been registered slightly more than the Estonian equivalent at 59.7 and the Swedish domain .se stands at 135.6 times per 1,000 persons.
Since March 2013, it has been possible to register a .ee domain for a period of up to three years. In these four months, about 490 of the 70,000 domains have been registered for two years and about 660 for three years. These are mostly renewals.
According to figures from 2013, an average of 1,130 .ee domain names are registered every month, which is 13 percent more than within the same period at 2012.
