The domain name Russia.com was sold for US$1.5 million by Sedo reports the Quintura blog, making it the sixth biggest reported sale to date for 2009 going by the current list of sales on Domain Name Journal’s list of top domain sales for the year.The domain name was previously used as a website for travel in Russia and attracted more than 8,000 unique monthly visits per month. The previous owner, NewMedia Holdings and Paley Media, also operate a number of other country domain name travel websites including Algeria.com, Morocco.com, PuertoRico.com, SouthAfrica.com, Scotland.com and Ukraine.com.In 2009, the only other reported sale of note for a country top level domain was brazil.com according to Domain Name Journal’s listing, which sold for $500,000, also through Sedo.
