Islamic State supporters used at least 46,000 Twitter accounts in late 2014, communicating in English roughly one-fifth of the time, according to a new analysis of the militant group’s use of social media.The 68-page report by the Brookings Institution found that typical Islamic State supporters used Twitter “within the organization’s territories in Syria and Iraq, as well as in regions contested” by the group, though it also detected a large number of users in Saudi Arabia. But Islamic State supporters also sent tweets from other areas, including Italy, Switzerland, France, Belgium, the U.K. and Spain, the study found.
