Record numbers of Britons buying online as shoppers shun high street

Britain has witnessed record levels of online shopping this week but customers are still shunning the high street, according to the latest sales figures.Industry analysts estimated that shoppers made a total of 4.6 million online shopping transactions on Monday as people sought to make the most of internet deals.However, despite the boom in the volume of sales, figures showed that customers are spending less on each purchase as Britons resign themselves to a more frugal Christmas amid the economic downturn.
