The Austrian registry, nic.at, is set to launch around 5,000 one and two character domains commencing with a Sunrise period from 29 August. The Sunrise phase for trademark holders will run from 29 August to 23 September. Trademark holders or their authorised agents such as registrars or lawyers can file applications for relevant domains. The trademark has to be registered before 1 July 2015 and has to be valid in Austria. The application has to be filed at www.nic.at/shortdomains and costs €100. If there is only one valid application for a domain, the domain will be granted to the applicant for a fixed price of €200. If there is more than one valid application, the domain goes to a closed auction that will be held from 10 to 21 October.Domains not allocated during the Sunrise phase will go to a public online auction where everyone can participate. The starting price for domains in the public auction is €60.And then any remaining domains will be publicly available on a first come first served basis from 6 December. They can then be registered based on the normal terms, conditions and prices.December 6 is also the date when all registered one and two character domains will be entered in the .at zone and thus be technically available. There is an FAQ available here and all prices exclude VAT.
