Last week Rupert Murdoch was keeping his options open when asked about swapping some of News Corporation’s online properties for a stake in Yahoo. “I think that day has passed, but you never know,” the News Corporation chairman said.However, Murdoch and News Corp’s president, Peter Chernin, had dinner – also last week – with Yahoo’s chief executive, Jerry Yang, who is trying to fend off a $44bn (£22.4bn) hostile takeover bid from Microsoft.Late yesterday it emerged – first on the TechCrunch Silicon Valley blog, but also reported by the News Corp-owned Wall Street Journal – that the swap plan, which has been under discussion for 18 months, is back on the agenda.
