New German Data Law Could Benefit Music Pirates

Germany’s music industry fears that a new telephone data law could become a carte blanche for Internet users, who download tunes illegally. Until now, they’ve traced music pirates with the help of phone records.The agony of the recorded-music industry as it fights the “world of free” on the Internet may have become a little more painful in Germany this month, with a court ruling that seems to restrict surveillance of Web users.
