As of 00:01 on 7 February, a new era began for the .CO (Colombia) ccTLD began with the transition of management of the registry from Universidad de los Andes to .CO Internet SAS.

Within the first hour of registrations under the new management, more than 500 domain names were registered.

The seamless transition to new management on the changeover sees a number of new policies implemented along with a reduction in the cost of .CO domain names.

Other changes to the new policies include:

• a network of ten registrars and a number of resellers for those wanting to purchase a .CO domain name
• ability to register a domain name quickly, in five minutes according to the registry
• better support for customers
