.gay domain names became available on a first-come, first-served basis Wednesday with the official launch day and first day of General Availability.
Any remaining domain names following the Sunrise and Early Access periods that commenced in February and September respectively became available yesterday. And the new generic top-level domain (new gTLD) is donating 20% of all new .gay registration revenue (not just profit!) to LGBTQ organisations to help address key issues facing this community. As of mid-June $34,400 had been donated to GLAAD and CenterLink.
The Early Access Period and General Availability launches were delayed due to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic sweeping the world, with the registry Top Level Design deciding to take a step back and delay the launch.
