.ir, the ccTLD for Iran, reached its 100,000th registration on 20 October.
Between April 1994 and late December 2003, when new liberalised registration rules took effect, only some 2,000 .ir domains had been registered.
In less than 5 years the number has increased fifty-fold to 100,000. In the four-year span 2004-2007 .ir has had the 4th highest growth rate among the 60 largest ccTLDs the registry claims, although this comes from a low base.
