InternetNZ proposes official name-change

InternetNZ, whose role includes managing the .nz ccTLD, is looking to change its official name reports ComputerWorld. The official name – “The Internet Society of New Zealand” – is rather long as the article notes, and the organisation is not an official chapter of the international Internet Society, or ISOC.

There will be meetings of members around New Zealand to consider the name change. There has been some confusion, says Keith Davidson, InternetNZ’s Executive Director, with ISOC and many would assume InternetNZ is affiliated with the international body.

“The ISOC has also ‘expressed a desire for us not to be seen as passing ourselves off as a chapter of their organisation,’ says Davidson. However, he adds that there is no friction with ISOC over the issue.
