Identity fraud costs Australian economy $3 billion per year

Identity fraud is costing the Australian economy up to $3 billion a year, police experts will tell a national crime conference on the Gold Coast this morning.And much of the rich pickings can be attributed to online’s social networking in which internet users unwittingly provide information profiles the identity fraudsters dip into.The 2009 National Identity Crime Symposium is being held at the Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast for the next three days, attended by Australian and world experts.
