Gordon Cook, self-confessed as having ânever been a fan of ICANNâ digs into the salaries of ICANN staff by looking at ICANN Form 990s. Cook claims that in the year ending 30 June 2006 there were 20 employees paid over $50,000 and lists the top five with their âCompensation, Contributions to benefit plan/deffered compensation.â He then lists the top five one year later, using as a reference an email from George Kirikos to the GNSO mailing list.
It’s hard to know whether Cook’s targeting of the salaries of ICANN staff is justified. Good staff get good salaries and it is a competitive marketplace. To me the salaries seem nothing out of the ordinary. Well paid, for sure. But extravagant?
