ICANN drops bad domain registrar, but on technicality

Confirmation of EstDomains’ accreditation being revoked came through last week with ICANN in the process of finding a suitable registrar to transfer EstDomains’ 281,000 domain name records to.IDG reports the demise “couldn’t come soon enough for computer security analysts. The registrar held the domain name registrations for a trove of Web sites that hawked pharmaceutical products, sold bogus software and tried to infect users’ PCs with malicious software.” It is also noted the de-accreditation came about because of a technicality in its contract with ICANN rather than for bad behaviour. Although using a technicality to revoke their accreditation was an easier way to terminate EstDomains’ accreditation.More media reports are available from:
