IAB: One-Third of Connected TV Owners Stream Video Every Day

The idea that all media will be digital is starting to gain momentum in the TV world. Case in point: the Interactive Advertising Bureau is set to release a comprehensive report on digital video consumption that finds that one-third of Americans now own connected TVs, and one-third of those folks claim to stream video to their TVs on a daily basis.On one level, it’s no surprise that people who have connected TVs are eager video streamers. But add these data points to some of the other recent reports that have emerged on how streaming video is radically changing television viewing patterns, and a narrative starts to form that may spook the traditional TV industry. For example, in December, Nielsen reported that traditional TV viewing had dipped 4% in the third quarter of last year, while streaming to TV surged 60% compared with the same period in 2013.
