Hecta Media Invests in dotNYC, DotEco

Hecta Media, a company whose purpose is to make investments in niche content websites and vertically targeted, branded domains, has broadened its investments to include investing in dotNYC and DotEco, both potential new generic Top Level Domains, the company reported Wednesday.

Hecta Media’s core business model is to generate revenue through targeted text-link internet advertising through Google AdSense along with Yahoo and Microsoft online advertising as well as domain monetisation.

DotNYC is the organisation behind a gTLD for New York City, .NYC, owned and managed by founding members of ICANN, who continue to serve in leadership capacities.

DotECO meanwhile is supported by U.S. former Vice President and environment warrior Al Gore, a proposed gTLD that is aimed at individuals who want to express their support for environmental causes, for companies to promote their environmental initiatives, and for environmental organisations to maintain their websites in a namespace that is more relevant to their core missions. By charter, a majority of the profits of the .eco initiative will be distributed to support environmental causes.
