Almost half of trademark-conscious companies are considering a â.brandâ top-level domain, according to a survey carried out by World Trademark Review magazine reports Domain Incite.
Domain Incite reports that there is stronger interest in new TLDs among marketing people than lawyers, something that is not surprising.
According to the report, âWTRâs survey of in-house trademark counsel, attorneys in law firms and marketing professionals found that an average of 54% responded âYesâ, âItâs likelyâ or âMaybeâ when asked whether their company/client would apply for a new gTLD. Of these, 81% confirmed, like Canon, that the string would be their master brand,â reported Domain Incite.
As the report notes, this interest in new gTLDs would mean a lot of applications to ICANN once applications begin being accepted.
World Trademark Review describes itself as the world’s only independent multimedia publication dedicated exclusively to reporting on trademark issues for in-house and private practitioners internationally.
