Google and Microsoft to block abuse web searches

Internet searches for child abuse images will be blocked for the first time by Microsoft and Google after months of mounting pressure.New software is to be introduced that will automatically block 100,000 “unambiguous” search terms which lead to illegal content, Google chief executive Eric Schmidt told the Daily Mail.

Google is targeting 100,000 terms associated with online child sexual abuse in a move hailed by David Cameron, who will announce a series of measures to tackle the problem at a cyber-summit in Downing Street. The prime minister said that Google and Yahoo had “come a long way” after the internet firms announced a series of initiatives to try to block access to child pornography.Google’s chief executive, Eric Schmidt, has announced that a 200-strong team has cleaned up Google Search to target 100,000 terms that can be used to locate child pornography. The changes will soon apply to more than 150 languages. The company is also showing warnings at the top of its search results for 13,000 queries.
