Google admits mistakes with news outlets as it announces new partnership

Google is to admit to making mistakes in working with news organisations as it announces a new digital partnership with eight European publishers.The Digital News Initiative is likely to be seen as an attempt by the company to improve its image after being accused of distorting internet search results and acting anti-competitively by European regulators two weeks ago.

Google seems to have a new strategy in Europe: If you don’t like the message, try to befriend the messengers.Less than two weeks after the European Commission filed antitrust charges against Google for abusing its dominant position in online search, the company said it would spend 150 million euros, or $165 million, over the next three years to help European publishers and newspapers adapt to the digital world.
