EURid has been selected to run the .eu registry for another five years, meaning they will manage the top-level domain until 2027 which will see them reach 20 years of managing .eu.
In May 2021, EURid submitted their application to the European Commission which highlighted the .eu registry’s achievements over the past 15 years as well as the vision and plans for the future. The four-month long selection process considered the following four eligible applicants:
- European Network Information Center ASBL (EU NIC)
- European Registry for Internet Domains, EURid vzw
- The Open Registry ASBL (“TORA”)
- Estonian Internet Foundation (Eesti Interneti Sihtasutus – EIS).
“We feel honoured to have been chosen to continue to serve the .eu stakeholders,” stated Marc Van Wesemael, CEO of EURid. “EURid is an award-winning registry due in large part to the expertise of EURid’s staff, the great relations with our accredited registrar community and the international partnerships we built year after year.”
“We have built a trustworthy brand and proven that even those working in cyberspace can do so in a sustainable manner. We will continue working at the highest standard and look forward to ensuring the .eu value for all Europeans.”
