The latest progress report from the .eu registry, EURid, has shown that for nine consecutive yearsâ .eu has maintained its high renewal rate. During the second quarter of 2015, on average 81% of .eu domain names were renewed.
At the same time, EURidâs carbon emissions continued to decrease in 2014 since their first assessment in 2012. After establishing that the .eu registry had emitted 0.044 kg CO2eq per domain name in 2014, EURid decided to compensate for its emissions by getting involved in the Ecomapuá project, selected, due to its enormous environmental, ecological, social, and economic benefits in the state of Pará on Marajó Island.
âWe donât just think green we act green and are continuously finding new ways to meet our environmental standards. This project preceded .euâs recent choice to work with EBRC Trusted Services, an energy efficient data center based in Luxembourg from September 2015â commented External Relations Manager, Giovanni Seppia.
EBRC bases its Green IT program on international certifications and valuable memberships such as: ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 50001 (Energy Management).
Q2 in numbers
During Q2 2015, the total number of .eu registrations increased in 10 European Union and EEA member states. Croatia and Poland both saw growth of more than 6%.

About .eu and EURid
The .eu domain ranks among the largest top-level domains in the world, connecting more than 500 million people across 31 countries to one Internet identity. More than 3.9 million .eu names have been registered since the domain opened for registration in 2005. EURid is the not-for-profit organisation that operates the .eu top-level domain, following a tender process and appointment by the European Commission. EURid works with over 750 accredited registrars and provides support in the 24 official EU languages. As part of its ongoing commitment to data security, EURid has been certified for the ISO27001 security standard since 2013. EURid is also registered by the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), which is an expression of its environmental commitment. EURid has its headquarters in Brussels (Belgium), and regional offices in Pisa (Italy), Prague (the Czech Republic) and Stockholm (Sweden). More information at: www.eurid.eu.
