EU regulatory proposals for the internet may damage economic recovery

The proposed regulations would stifle the growth of internet and undermine European telecommunications industry’s crucial economic advantage as Europe copes with global recessionAmid the economic carnage that has dominated headlines in recent months, one sign of hope is European telecommunications companies continuing to invest billions of euros into the continent’s internet systems. Not only does this create and sustain jobs, it also allows more people to share in the benefits.Unfortunately these economic and social benefits are in jeopardy as EU policymakers consider expensive rules that will, for the first time, give governments the ability to regulate the highly complex technologies underpinning Europe’s internet.
