.EU Registrations Grow 2.3% In First Quarter: EURid

EURid logoRegistrations of .EU domains grew by 2.3 percent, or 87,459, in the first quarter of 2015 when compared to the final quarter of 2014, according to the latest progress report from EURid.

In total, the quarter saw 205,952 new .eu registrations and 233,516 deletions to take the total number of registrations to 3,880,448. The average renewal rate for .eu domains over the last nine years has been 80 percent and 76 percent for the quarter.

‘It is worth noting that growth rates can vary significantly during this period as many domain names come up for renewal during the first quarter of the year. Despite specific fluctuations, the number of registered .eu domain names, have now grown on an annual basis for eight consecutive years. We owe these figures in part to the loyalty of our customers’, commented the General Manager, Marc Van Wesemael.

The country with the most registrations of .eu domains was Germany with 1,116,017 registrations, followed by the Netherlands (500,835), France (344,988), United Kingdom (318,852) and Poland (280,147). However on per capita basis Malta comes out top with 37.3 domains per 1,000 people followed by The Netherlands 30.1 and then Luxembourg with 28.7.

During the first quarter, the total number of .eu registrations increased in 16 of the 31 EU member states and eligible EEA countries. Croatia, Poland and Italy all saw growth of more than four percent. At the end of Q1 registrants in Norway had registered 12,859 names, Iceland 309 and Liechtenstein 135.
