At the General Assembly in Salzburg the CENTR (Council of European National Top Level Domain Registries) accepted the Estonian Internet Foundation, the registry for .EE, as a full member.
âAs of today, the Internet has been the largest cooperation project of mankind. Full membership status in the CENTR provides Estonia with an opportunity to participate in the development of the Internet on the international level,â said Marek-Andres Kauts, Chairman of the Board of the Estonian Internet Foundation.
Participants in the General Assembly of the CENTR included leaders of organisations engaged in the national Internet and domain business as well as representatives of the European Commission and the ICANN. Items on the agenda concerned removal from the register of domains violating law and issues relating to Internet security, including DNSSEC.
CENTR provides a platform for national domain organisations of European countries to discuss issues relating to Internet policy and formulate common positions for the European Commission as well as to exchange the best practices in the field of service development and security.
