ESS Data Recovery Purchases for $1.7m

ESS Data Recovery logoESS Data Recovery has bought the domain name for US$1.7 million, the highest reported domain name sale of 2008 according to Dominik Mueller’s blog. The company claims the purchase is an effort to set itself apart from the growing number of new data recovery companies and is another example of a company purchasing a generic domain name to set themselves apart from their competition. They currently have the domain which ESS will keep and simply link to it.

“Our existing customers know that we’re a leader in the extremely competitive data recovery industry because we provide a better service than our competition. It’s fitting to have a domain name that reflects that,” said Ben Carmitchel, the company’s president. “Our existing clients and new clients alike will benefit from easily finding our website when checking on the status of their case, researching information about data recovery, or referring us to a friend.”

The company was formed in 1997 and they claim to be a worldwide leader in data recovery services and computer forensics.
