ICANN logoIn a posting on the ICANN Blog, ICANN’s Chief Operating Officer Doug Brent has announced he will be leaving the organisation as of the end of July.

Brent announced in his posting that he is leaving for family reasons including that his family has determined that Los Angeles, where ICANN IS headquartered, is not for them.

In his posting Brent praises ICANN and gives a number of examples of how ICANN has changed and what was accomplished in the 3.5 years while he was there.

These included:

  • technology resources and activities have been completely overhauled
  • ICANN’s accountability through public reporting has changed just as much
  • dramatically enhanced remote meeting participation, staff support for policy development, thorough and timely analysis of public comment processes
  • improvements in internal management processes
  • ICANN’s financial security.
