Donuts Launches .RESTAURANT and .GIFTS as Registrations in New Internet Domains Surpass Three Million

Donuts logo[news release] Donuts Inc., the world’s largest registry for new generic top-level domains (gTLDs), continues its expansion of the Internet’s global addressing system in November by making three new domains available to the public. On November 5, users worldwide will be able to register addresses in .RESTAURANT, .GIFTS and .SARL (a corporate identifier). Donuts will also make .WORLD available for early registration by trademark holders on 4 November.

Last month, Donuts surpassed one million registrations in its new gTLDs and its registrants now account for more than a third of the now three million individual addresses registered in new Internet domains since the program launched earlier this year. Additionally, Donuts operates 10 of the top 25 most registered new Internet domains.

“With registrations in all new gTLDs reaching major new milestones each month, global demand for specific, relevant domain names has never been stronger,” Donuts CEO Paul Stahura said. “As users around the world personally experience the value of domains that are meaningful before and after the dot, the founding vision of new gTLDs is beginning to take shape.”

Specificity is critical to end-users.  For example, there are more than eight million restaurants worldwide, and, according to a study by Restaurant Sciences, not even half of independent operators have a web presence at all.  A gTLD with real semantic meaning like .RESTAURANT gets businesses out of the meaningless options of .COM and into choices that provide better Internet identities.

Users can register names in new gTLDs with accredited domain name registrars.
