Domain Speculators Appear Wherever Tragedy Strikes, And Airline Disappearance No Exception

Malaysia Airlines logoThey never stop. Tasteless domain name speculators are there when any tragedy happens and the disappearance of the Malaysian Airlines flight number MH370 has seen one speculator register the domain name mh370.com as “dozens of companies, families of victims will want to buy it from you”.

The domain name has been listed for sale on eBay, reported London’s Daily Mirror who labelled the act “tasteless”.

According to the Mirror, the domain appeared “to have been bought up after the flight carrying 239 passengers and crew disappeared.”

“It then appeared for sale on auction website eBay for a price of about £2,500. The starting bid was about £250.

“A description on eBay said: ‘Buy this domain today and sell it later on for thousands of dollars. Dozens of companies, families of victims will want to buy it from you.

“‘Pay little money today and make huge profit tomorrow.’

“Speaking to That’s Online, the person responsible for registering the domain name said he registered it for ‘business purposes’.

“As you know, many people may be interested in buying this name now. I have already put it for sale on eBay.”

Whether the domain is still on sale is uncertain as a quick search of eBay failed to find the domain listed at the time of writing this report.
