Many Britons have been the victim of a cybercrime such as identity theft, hacking or abuse on social media, new research has found. UK losses from online fraud are now running at more than £670m a year, though with many cases going unreported, the true economic cost is likely to be significantly higher. The data – which follows the outcry over private photos of celebrities published by hackers – was produced to coincide with Get Safe Online Week, which runs until 26 October and is aimed at raising awareness of internet security issues.
