Courts, Royal Family Gain Second Level .UK Domains

Nominet logoNominet announced yesterday it has delegated a number of new second-level .uk domain names to various arms of the Royal Family and the courts.

The domains delegated are royal.uk, princeofwales.uk, supremecourt.uk and jcpc.uk to the Royal Household, the Household of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, and the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council respectively.

These institutions requested delegation in order to allow them – as bodies considered independent from government – to migrate away from the .gov.uk space.

In total there will be 69 domains delegated and that have been requested by government in response to Nominet’s recent consultation.

Work is underway to agree the status of the remainder of the list, and we plan to publish a final list by February 2014.
