.CO Open to All And Sundry on 20 July

.CO domain names become available to everyone on 20 July following the end of the landrush phase for registrations that ended on 16 July.The relaunch of the.CO TLD is aimed as an alternative to .COM and over half of the Fortune 100 companies have registered their company name in .CO. Up to 70 per cent of the world’s best brands will have applied for a .CO before the domain goes on general sale and of the 500 most important global brands more than half has subscribe to request their domain .CO.As of 9 July, .CO Internet had registered or taken applications for more than 26,000 .CO domain names, many by some the world’s top global brands and Fortune 500 companies such as Amazon, American Express, Apple, BMW, Cartier, Canon, CNN, Coca-Cola, Disney, Ebay, Exxon, Facebook, Ford, Google, Hilton, Honda, IBM, IKEA, Kodak, McDonalds, Microsoft, MTV, Nestle, Nike, Nokia, Panasonic, Pfizer, Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, Toyota, Twitter, Unilever, Visa and Yahoo.Of the 26,000 domain names applied for, there were 11,000 requests during the sunrise period and more than 15,000 during the landrush period.But cybersquatters have been circling .CO with many of the 1,500 requests declined during the sunrise period due to the applicant being unable to substantiate their rights to the domain name, an indication that many were cybersquatters.
