The .cloud new gTLD commemorates its fifth birthday this week with its first ever Premium Domain Sales Report that notes there were $320,136 in total premium revenue in 2020, $203,884 through their premium registrars who sold 155 premium domains with an average price of $1,315 per domain sold.
The most expensive .cloud domain name sold through a “premium brokerage” was energy.cloud, which went for $50,000, followed by power.cloud ($24,360) and simple.cloud ($14,825).
Over the 5 years since launch the trajectory for registrations has been consistently upwards with 89,000 registrations at the end of 2017, 179,000 at the end of 2018, 200,000 at the end of 2019 and 208,000 at the end of 2020 according to nTLDstats. Today there are around 205,000 registrations making .cloud the 22nd largest new generic top-level domain by domains under management.
