CIRA dotCA logo[news release] The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) has received reports of a phone call security scam using the CIRA name.

In this particular scam, a caller, claiming to be associated with CIRA, asks for information about the user’s computer. The caller then guides the user through a process that ultimately provides the scammer remote access to the user’s computer and the information located on its hard drive.

CIRA is advising Internet users not to respond to these phone calls and to report them to the Canadian Anti-fraud Centre.
