Chocolate.com Sold For Mid-To-Low-Seven Figure Sum

The chocolate.com domain name sold in a million dollar plus sale this week, brokered by Buckley Media.

“While the exact acquisition price is under a non-disclosure agreement, I am free to tell you that it was in the mid-to-low-seven figures,” said Kate Buckley, CEO of Buckley Media.

So it’s reasonable to assume it could be anywhere up to $7 million, although DNJ speculates it’s in the $3.5-$4 million range.

“Chocolate.com is a fantastic domain name,” wrote Elliot Silver on his Domain Investing blog. “Not only is the chocolate industry massive, but Chocolate.com could easily be used as a brand that is totally unrelated to the candy business.”

According to an article on Domain Pulse in 2008, chocolate.com “sold for US$300,000, a much smaller amount than other generic domain names, back in 2005.”
