California.com seems to have changed hands twice in 6 months, first as part of a package of 10 premium domain names in August 2018 with Domain Pulse reporting at the time âthe actual price was undisclosed, but the package sold âfor an undisclosed mid-seven figure amount.ââ Then in January 2019 it appears to have changed hands again, this time on its own selling for $3 million through VIPBrokerage easily becoming 2019âs biggest reported sale to date and placing it firmly in Domain Name Journalâs top 20 biggest sales ever reported.
Second and third on the weekly list for the week ending 20 January after California.com was gme.com, which sold for $115,000 through BQDN while redbarn.com sold for $60,750 through PerfectName.
On California.comâs huge sale, it comes in a three-way tie for 17th place, tying with the first non-.com domain name sale (sex.xxx) on Domain Name Journalâs all time chart of top reported sales, which commenced in 2003. Coming in first was sex.com, which sold for $13 million followed by tesla.com ($11 million) and fund.com ($9,999,950). A couple of sex-related domains came next â porn.com ($9,500,000) and porno.com ($8,888,888).
For the week ending 20 January, there 17 .com sales and one each for .org, .fr and .eu. On the aftermarket side of things, there was a release of a list of recent sales from PerfectName which resulted in them taking out 9 sales on the chart, while Sedo took out another 9.
